Family Feuds

The past two presidential elections have been monumental for America. Obama was the first black president and was a big step for the Democrats. (Click for the differing views on Obama). Trump on the other hand stands for exactly what the Republicans believe in. (Click for thoughts on Trump). In both cases, the opposing party strongly disapproved of the president.

Opposing political viewpoints are tearing the country apart. Each side believes their opinions are right and refuses to communicate civilly with the other. This same thing is tearing families apart as well. Every year, Margaret Sayer hides her political yard signs for the holidays when her family comes over in order to avoid tension. This year, however, she kept them up - one of her signs being "Black lives matter" - for her adopted black son, stirring the pot when her family arrived. Margaret Sayer is surrounded by her left-leaning family, which is not unlike situations many American are forced to face. (More about Margaret and her family)About 37% of people feel strain on their relationships with their loved ones because of their political views. Many Americans are being pulled apart from the people they love because they can't express themselves in a polite manner to each other anymore.

Do you feel isolated from your friends and family because of your political standing? How do you feel being around people who don't see things you do? Do you feel as if you can freely express yourself?
